Mapping biodiversity and ecosystem service trade-offs and synergies of agricultural change trajectories in Europe

چکیده
The intensification, extensification and abandonment of agricultural land will each play a major role in the future development European landscapes. However, their impacts on various dimensions sustainability vary spatially. This creates challenges but also opportunities for landscape managers policymakers to optimize biodiversity ecosystem services. In this study, we conduct spatial assessment these three trajectories ten service indicators across Union (EU) UK. Using resolution 1 km2, exposed high variation strong differences patterns depending indicator. Aggregating all positive negative trajectory, hot- cold spots total could be distinguished. An trade-offs synergies between trajectory was used map areas dominated by beneficial impacts, detrimental or impacts. results indicate very diverse trade-off synergy patterns, with generally sub-regional variation, emphasizing (i) need reflecting context-specificity planning management (ii) potential advantages targeting conservation strategies. Biodiversity impact mapping exercises can, thus, tool effectively navigate explore effective sustainable solutions.

Ecosystem service trade-offs and synergies misunderstood without landscape history
Dramatic changes in ecosystem services have motivated recent work characterizing their interactions, including identifying trade-offs and synergies. Although time is arguably implicit in these ideas of trade-offs and synergies (e.g., temporal dynamics or changes in ecosystem services), such interactions are routinely inferred based on the spatial relationships among ecosystem services alone (e....

The Three-Rivers Headwaters region (TRHR) is an ecological shelter located in the northeast of the Tibetan Plateau, China, that provides environmental protection and regional sustainable development. This region also provides ecosystem services including water supply and soil conservation and exerts major impacts on both its surroundings, as well as the whole of China. A number of ecological re...

Meeting human needs while sustaining the planet’s life support systems is the fundamental challenge of our time. What role sustenance of biodiversity and contrasting ecosystem services should play in achieving a sustainable future varies along philosophical, cultural, institutional, societal, and governmental divisions. Contrasting biophysical constraints and perspectives on human well-being ar...
متن کاملA Linear Programming Model to Biophysically Assess Some Ecosystem Service Synergies and Trade-Offs in Two Irish Landscapes
Ecosystem service provisions are becoming more frequently used to assess land-use related conflicts in recent decades. This study investigates the current spatial and research information available to quantify ecosystem services relative to forest land-use planning in Ireland. A model is developed using the linear-programming method in Remsoft’s Woodstock platform. This model is applied to two ...
